In the past 50 years, things that were once "mostly" free moved to fee-for-service.  It seemed limited to a few industries but, over time, more and more companies decided that your pocketbook was theirs to drain.  In the last decade, whether it be in app purchases, monthly subscriptions, pay per view, or planned obsolescence, consumers cannot hide from a host of monetary attacks competing against basic essentials.  From phone plans, to streaming platforms, to news behind firewalls, to auto manufacturers considering monthly payment to turn on features in your car, to technological consumables going from own to pay for usage, everyone wants a piece of you or your business.
